HC Deb 19 November 1979 vol 974 cc11-2W
52. Mr. Ron Brown

asked the Lord Privy Seal if Her Majesty's Government will send a representative to be present at the trial of William Beausire before there is an exchange of ambassadors with Chile.

Mr. Ridley

We are not aware of any trial in prospect concerning Mr. Beausire. The Chilean courts have recently agreed to reopen their inquiries into his disappearance. Our Embassy in Santiago will continue to assist in whatever way it can. As to an exchange of ambassadors, I have nothing to add to the reply I gave to the hon. Member for Bolsover (Mr. Skinner) on 9 November.—[Vol. 973, c. 358.]
