HC Deb 19 November 1979 vol 974 c1W
Mr. Marlow

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will investigate the reasons why fiancées admitted from India and Pakistan increased by 20 per cent. between the second quarter of 1978 and the second quarter of 1979; and what projections he has made of the future pattern of entries.

Mr. Raison

Changes in the number of fiancées admitted from India and Pakistan are monitored regularly and the reasons for them are assessed to the extent that is practicable. There is considerable quarter-to-quarter variability in the numbers so admitted. Reliable projection of future patterns of entry of fiancées cannot be made because they can be effected by so many continuously changing factors.
