HC Deb 19 November 1979 vol 974 c7W
44. Mr. John Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Wales why he will not set up an inquiry into the circumstances of the death of Helenor Bye in respect of the medical treatment she received.

Mr. Michael Roberts

On the basis of the information at present available to him and having regard to the other avenues of investigation that are available I do not believe my right hon. Friend would be justified in instituting a statutory inquiry under section 84 of the National Health Services Act 1977.

Mr. John Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what steps the area health authority is taking regarding complaints concerning medical treatment received by Helenor Bye.

Mr. Michael Roberts

Mid-Glamorgan health authority has supplied the solicitors representing Mr. and Mrs. Bye with a report of its investigation into the complaints made in this case. The clinical records have been released to a medically qualified consultant nominated by the complainants.
