§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the expected outturn of expenditure on education in England and Wales, with authorities in Great Britain, in 1979–80; and how much and by what percentage it is expected to fall in real terms by 1980–81.
§ Mr. Mark CarlisleAs explained in the Government's Expenditure Plans 1980–81—Cmnd. 7446—the outturn for local authority current expenditure in 1979–80 cannot yet be estimated. If planned expenditure by local authorities on education is reduced by 3 per cent., as sought by the Government in relation to local authority expenditure on all services, the plans provide for a further reduction of £141 million or 1.8 per cent. in 1980–81 in total expenditure on education in England and Wales, with universities in Great Britain.
§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science by how much and by what percentage the 5W planned expenditure on education in England and Wales, with universities in Great Britain, in 1980–81 is to be cut in real terms compared with the previous Government's planned expenditure for the same period as set out in Cmnd. 7439.
§ Mr. Mark CarlisleBy about £430 million or 5.3 per cent., including the planned reduction of about £220 million in expenditure on school meals, milk and transport.
