§ Mr. Beaumont-Darkasked the Secretary of State for Industry what is being done to encourage car manufacturers in the United Kingdom to adopt the latest microprocessor-controlled electro-optic inspection system now widely used in the United States of America, which increases 28W car reliability and lowers fuel consumption.
§ Mr. David Mitchell[pursuant to his reply, 15 November 1979, c. 694]: The Department has a scheme designed to encourage the application of microprocessors, and electro-optic inspection systems could be considered under this scheme but the choice of inspection system must remain within the discretion of the manufacturer.
