§ The Prime MinisterThe total strength of police forces in the United Kingdom has increased by 4,494 since the beginning of the year. The improvement in morale which followed the report of the Edmund-Davies inquiry has been strengthened by the Government's policy to give priority to expenditure on the police and other law and order services.
