HL Deb 15 November 1979 vol 402 cc1484-5WA
Lord AVEBURY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the average delay in preparing appeal statements at the British High Commission in Dacca, Bangladesh, and on what date was the notice of appeal lodged in the earliest case for which the appeal statement had still not on 30th Septmeber 1979 been sent to the appellate authorities; and how do these delays compare with those at other overseas posts.

Lord CARRINGTON

Current delays in preparing appeal statements average eight to nine months. On 30th September 1979 the longest outstanding appeal at the High Commission had been lodged on 31st October 1978. There are delays of up to six months at other overseas posts.
