§ Mr. Leightonasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) what is his latest estimate of the United Kingdom's gross and net contribution to the EEC budget in 1979, 1980 and 1981; and what is the assumed rate of exchange between sterling and the ECU in each case;
(2) whether the United Kingdom's contribution to the EEC budget has had the effect of reducing the exchange rate; if so, by how much; what is his estimate of the effect of the reduction in the exchange rate on the total cost of imports in terms of sterling; and what effect this has had on the cost of living.
