HC Deb 12 November 1979 vol 973 c472W
Mr. Pollock

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what current action he is taking in response to the French Government's defiance of the European Court in respect of the import of sheepmeat from Scotland.

Mr. Younger

My colleagues and I have repeatedly called on the French Government to lift their restrictions on British lamb imports, as the European Court required them to do in the judgment delivered on 25 September. We shall continue to press by all the means at our disposal for the full implementation of this judgment. The French Government's defiance of the European Court is deprecated not only by the United Kingdom and other member States but by the EEC Commission, which has now started the legal procedure to secure compliance with the judgment.
