§ Mr. John Morrisasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what consideration he has given to the need to change the law following the recent Press Council report relating to R. v. Deakin and others as regards contracts for witness statements.
§ Mr. WhitelawI have noted the wide support for the Press Council's renewed condemnation of this practice and its view that it is quite exceptional. My right hon. Friends and I will take account of the Press Council's views in our further consideration of the need for a change in the law.
