§ 39. Mr. Christopher Priceasked the Attorney-General whether, in the interests of public confidence in the random selection of jurors, he will make arrangements for such selection to be undertaken by mechanical rather than manual means.
The Attorney-GeneralThose summoned for jury service are selected at random from the electoral register, and at the court the jury is chosen by ballot from among them. There is no reason to suppose that a mechanical system at either stage would be more effective in securing a random selection for a particular case.
