HC Deb 12 November 1979 vol 973 cc500-1W
Mr. Field

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many persons have gained employment under (a) the job rehearsal scheme and (b) job introduction scheme for each year since the schemes' inception.

Mr. Jim Lester

[pursuant to his reply, 7 November 1979, c. 179–80]: I understand from the Manpower Services Commission that since the inception of the job introduction scheme the following numbers of people have been placed in employment:

July 1977—December 1977 166
January 1978—December 1978 1,171
January 1979—September 1979 1,223

The job rehearsal scheme is of longer standing, and is used primarily as a means of enabling certain clients who have attended employment rehabilitation centres to test out the validity of resettlement recommendations. It is not intended as a placement scheme as such, and hence figures for those who subsequently gained employment are not immediately available. However, over the past five years the following numbers of people have undertaken such rehearsals:

January 1974—December 1974 219
January 1975—December 1975 172
January 1976—December 1976 180
January 1977—December 1977 328
January 1978—December 1978 346
January 1979—October 1979 372
