HC Deb 12 November 1979 vol 973 c422W
Mr. Wm. Ross

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the rate of inflation in each of the last five years; and whether there were any differences noted between the rates in Great Britain and in Northern Ireland.

Mr. Lawson

The average levels of price inflation, as indicated by changes in the retail prices index, for the calendar years 1974–78 were as follows:

1974 16.1%
1975 24.2%
1976 16.5%
1977 15.8%
1978 8.2%
There is no separate official index of price changes in Northern Ireland: the RPI represents changes in the United Kingdom as a whole.
