HC Deb 12 November 1979 vol 973 cc460-1W
Mr. Foulkes

asked the Minister of Transport if he will give an assurance that he will not assent to any proposal to close the Ayr—Stranraer railway line, as it is the only rail link between Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Mr. Lang

asked the Minister of Transport whether he has received any proposals for the closure of the Stranraer to Ayr railway line.

Mr. Fowler

No proposal has been put to me to close this service. I have reiterated by general policy on rail passenger closures most recently in a letter to the chairman of the British Railways Board. I have placed a copy of that letter in the Library.
