Dr. Mawhinney

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if he will implement the recommendation in paragraph 77 of the fifteenth report from the Expenditure Committee, Session 1977–78, that a special premium should be paid to psychiatrists in the prison service for the arduous and responsible nature of their work;

(2) if he will implement the recommendation in paragraph 77 of the fifteenth report from the Expenditure Committee, Session 1977–78, that a director of psychiatric services, to work in partnership with the director of prison medical services, should be made;

(3) if he will implement the recommendation in paragraph 77 of the fifteenth report from the Expenditure Committee, Session 1977–78, that more special wings such as C wing at Parkhurst prison should be established;

(4) if he will implement the recommendations in paragraph 77 of the fifteenth report from the Expenditure Committee, Session 1977–78, that the prison department should expand its own psychiatric facilities.
