HC Deb 05 November 1979 vol 973 cc20-1W
Mr. Frank Allaun

asked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) if he will reconsider his rejection of the bakers' union's objection to night work on social grounds for women, and also to women starting work at 3 am, 4 am and 5 am;

(2) if he will not accede to any representations from the Equal Opportunities Commission that a woman is being deprived by not being allowed, by present legislation, to commence work at the hour of 3 a.m.

Mr. Mayhew

I have asked the Health and Safety Commission to consider whether, in the light of the report of the Equal Opportunities Commission, the existing legislation on nightwork in industry needs amendment. I am awaiting its reply.
