§ Mr. Neil MartenThe British Government have provided immediate relief, including food and medical supplies and cash for the purchase of necessities locally, at a total cost of some £100,000.In addition we have sent two ambulances at a cost of £17,000 and financed the provision of seismologists and volcanologists from the Institute of Geological Sciences. We are considering with the Government of St Vincent the longer term problems of rehabilitation. My hon Friend the Minister of State the hon. Member for Cirencester and Tewkesbury (Mr. Ridley) has just returned from a visit to the island.
