§ Mr. John Evansasked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) how many Trades Union Congress-affiliated trade unions have indicated to him their willingness to accept Government financial assistance to conduct postal ballots for the election of their full-time officials;
(2)how many Trade Union Congress affiliated trade unions have indicated to him their willingness to change their rules and procedures and elect, by postal ballot, any or all of their full-time officials as soon as Government financial assistance for trade union postal ballots is available.
§ Mr. MayhewNone. However, my right hon. Friend confidently expects the TUC and its affiliates to recognise at an early stage the advantages contained in our proposals when they are published, and to seek to take full advantage of them when enacted.

(2) whether, if a trade union accepts government financial assistance to conduct postal ballots, he intends that voting will be compulsory for all members of that union.
