HC Deb 25 May 1979 vol 967 cc278-9W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what action he proposes to take to ensure that there will be an adequate reduction of oil consumption in the United Kingdom to enable stocks of products to be built up prior to next winter.

Mr. David Howell

In addition to monitoring the reduction in the use of oil for electricity generation and the savings to be achieved by public sector authorities, there will be continuing close liaison with the oil industry concerning the allocation schemes, both as to their effect on reduction in demand and as to equity of treatment of their customers. It will be our aim to ensure that adequate stocks of oil will be built up again next winter while not reducing current supply to unnecessarily low levels.
