HC Deb 25 May 1979 vol 967 c333W
Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list in the Official Report the types of medical certificate for which a general practitioner is entitled to charge a separate fee together with the scale of recommended charges which he has agreed with the British Medical Association.

Dr. Vaughan

No central record is kept of the wide range of private medical certificates which general practitioners may issue to their patients. The fees charged for such certificates are for the doctors concerned to determine. The BMA gives doctors guidance from time to time on the reasonable level of fees but doctors are not obliged to follow this advice.
