HC Deb 25 May 1979 vol 967 c317W
Mr. Alton

asked the Secretary of State for Trade whether, in view of the fact that the North-West region can support a category A and category B airport, he is prepared to consider re-categorising Liverpool airport from category C to B and the subsequent granting of licences for a network of domestic services within Europe.

Mr. Tebbit

The classification of Liverpool as a local airport broadly reflects its present function, and I do not think that this will prevent the development of new services where these are justified by the demand.
