HC Deb 25 May 1979 vol 967 cc286-7W
Mr. Stephen Ross

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will give an assurance to the South coast local authorities that his Department will continue to assist financially with the cost of mechanically clearing Japanese seaweed.

Mr. Monro

We can give no such assurance at this moment.

A meeting has been arranged at which this Department's officials will be meeting the South coast local authorities on 6 June for an exchange of view. After that, a major report on the problem will be prepared, on the basis of which a decision of future funding will be made.
