asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) for which countries the Boundary Commission for England has made provisional proposals for new boundaries of parliamentary constituencies but the procedures for considering these proposals are still under way;

(2) for which counties the Boundary Commission for England completed its procedures in the course of its current review of the boundaries of parliamentary constituencies, pending final report to him.

The Parliamentary Boundary Commission for England is not required to inform us of the stages it has reached in its deliberations, nor does it do so. The Commission has published provisional recommendations in respect of six counties; namely, Cleveland, Essex. Lancashire, Northumberland, Nottinghamshire, Somerset. The statutory public consultations so far undertaken in respect of each are as follows:
