§ Mr. Thomas Coxasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will give details of the welfare services supported by Her Majesty's Government at ports of entry into the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. RaisonSection 23 of the Immigration Act 1971 provides that the Secretary of State may with the consent of the Treasury make grants to any voluntary organisation which provides advice or assistance for, or other services for the welfare of, persons who have rights of appeal under the Act. The only grant made under this section is to the United Kingdom immigrants advisory service, whose main function is to provide free representation at appeals but which also provides a limited amount of welfare assistance.
