§ Mr. HoramThere are, at present, two trunk road schemes within the right hon. Member's constituency which are subject to claims under the Land Compensation Act 1973. These are the M11 and the A406 North Circular Road. The speed with which claims are handled depends on the progress of negotiations between the claimants and the district valuer who acts for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Transport. The district valuer's staff is being strengthened so that he can give higher priority to these claims.

§ Mr. HoramThe average for all paid claims on trunk roads is about 18 months. Claims under the retrospective provisions of the Act have tended to take longer; those related to current schemes are likely to have been cleared more quickly.
