§ Mr. JohnLocal government boundaries are the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment. My right hon. Friend the Home Secretary has responsibility for electoral arrangements for local government areas. On the assumption that the Local Government Boundary Commission for England completes its current review of the electoral arrangements for districts by the end of this year, it is likely that orders implementing the Commission's final proposals for all districts in England, with or without modifications, will be made by the middle of 1980. It is not possible at this stage to say when the 285W Commission is likely to have completed its review of the electoral arrangements for counties.
