HC Deb 28 March 1979 vol 965 c212W
73. Mr. Rathbone

asked the Secretary of State for Transport when last he met the EEC Commissioner for Transport; and if he will report on that meeting.

Mr. William Rodgers

I met Commissioner Burke on 1 February. Our talk was mainly about the proposed directive on the harmonisation of laws relating to motor vehicle driving licences; but we touched also on the Community quota of permits for road haulage between the member States; on the possible role for the Community in the provision of transport infrastructure; and on the need for a more positive recognition of the environmental problems caused by heavy lorries.

I also attended a transport council on 20 February and refer the hon. Member to my reply of 21 February to my hon. Friend the Member for Leicester, East (Mr. Bradley).—[Vol. 963, c. 230.]
