asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many marriages were solemnised in England and Wales during each of the last three years; and how many were religious and how many were civil ceremonies.

The latest available information is as follows:

informed that the obstacle to relaxing the test is the problem of resources.

The campaign also suggested amendments to the application form for the benefit and to the medical report form which provide evidence for the adjudicating authorities. I am glad to say that many of its suggestions have been incorporated in the revised claim form which was recently introduced and in the medical report form which will soon be brought into use.
