HC Deb 27 March 1979 vol 965 cc144-5W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if, in the light of recent events, he will make a statement on the relations of Her Majesty's Government and the Government of Grenada.

Mr. Rowlands

The new Government in Grenada fulfil our normal criteria for recognition. Following the announcement of de facto recognition by Jamaica, Guyana and Barbados, our high commissioner was instructed to call on Mr. Bishop on 23 March and explain that the call reflected the Government's decision to resume normal relations with the Grenada Government. The Grenada Government have undertaken to hold free and fair elections shortly.
