§ Mr. Sproatasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his latest estimate of the total amount that the child benefit provision coming into effect in April 1979 will cost between April 1979 and April 1980.
§ Mr. OrmeFrom April 1979 child benefit will be payable at the rate of £4 for each child. It is estimated that the total amount payable in the financial year 141W 1979–80 will be £2,852 million—£2,750 million Great Britain and £102 million Northern Ireland.
