HL Deb 27 March 1979 vol 399 c1576WA
Lord KENNET

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the figure £l½ million mentioned in paragraph 7, page 4 of the Department of Trade's recent publication Improved Arrangements to Combat Pollution at Sea is to cover "specialised equipment for use in off-loading" a chemical carrier involved in a collision or stranded; and if not, what arrangements if any exist for such off-loading.

Lord JACQUES

Yes. This equipment which will be additional to that already available from commercial sources, will be suitable for use in the emergency offloading of many of the cargoes carried in chemical tankers, including many chemicals, as well as for off-loading oil.

Some items of this equipment will be manufactured in special materials so that they can also be used for off-loading more corrosive chemicals and solvents.
