§ Miss Maynardasked the Secretary of State for Trade why the multi-fibre arrangement has not protected the worsted yarn part of the textile industry.
§ Mr. Meacher, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 12 March 1979; Vol. 964, c. 34–35], gave the following information:
There are restraints on exports to the United Kingdom of five low-cost suppliers of worsted yarn. However, over 60 per cent. of United Kingdom imports of worsted yarn in 1978 came from the EEC and other developed countries, and therefore effectively fell outside the scope of the multi-fibre arrangement.
