§ Mr. McElhoneThe current salary scales for teachers employed by education authorities, as set out in the Scottish Teachers' Salaries Memorandum 1978, are £3,282–£5,358 for secondary teachers (scale 1) and £3,120–£4,560 for primary teachers (scale 2). In October 1978, 30,214 teachers were on scale 1 and 26,523 on scale 2. Many were also in receipt of responsibility or other additional payments.
