HC Deb 23 March 1979 vol 964 c196W
20. Mr. Corrie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what are the scales of pay for teachers in (a) primary and (b) secondary schools in Scotland; and how many teachers are on each scale of pay.

Mr. McElhone

The current salary scales for teachers employed by education authorities, as set out in the Scottish Teachers' Salaries Memorandum 1978, are £3,282–£5,358 for secondary teachers (scale 1) and £3,120–£4,560 for primary teachers (scale 2). In October 1978, 30,214 teachers were on scale 1 and 26,523 on scale 2. Many were also in receipt of responsibility or other additional payments.
