Mr. Richard Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list in the Official Report all those applications for successor parish council status which he has received since the passing of the Local Government Act 1972 from district councils within the county of South Yorkshire.

Successor parishes, that is parishes coterminous with former boroughs or urban districts were created only during the process of reorganising local government, in 1973 and 1974. The then Secretary of State received 19 applications from within South Yorkshire. These applications were received from the councils of the former urban districts listed below:

  • Bentley-with-Arksey
  • Conisborough
  • Cudworth
  • Darfield
  • Darton
  • Dearne
  • Dodworth
  • Hoyland Nether
  • Maltby
  • Mexborough
  • Penistone
  • Rawmarsh
  • Stockbridge
  • Swinton
  • Tickhill
  • Wath-upon-Dearne
  • Wombswell
  • Worsborough
