asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether she has any further proposals for the reform of the requirement that parents should contribute towards the maintenance of students in receipt of grants.

Mr. Oakes

My right hon. Friend sees no immediate prospect of abolishing parental contributions. My Department is, however, conducting a full review of the student grant arrangements, including the assessment of parental contributions, and I shall shortly be considering the results.
