§ Miss Richardsonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what volume of evidence his Department has submitted to the Royal Commission on Criminal Procedure; what volume of evidence the Metropolitan Police have submitted to the same body; what was the 193W cost of producing such evidence; and whether he will place the evidence, including the statistical information from which any figures were extracted, in the Library.
§ Mr. JohnThe Home Office has prepared 10 memoranda of evidence to the Royal Commission, nine of which have now been submitted to it. The cost of printing the seven memoranda that have so far been published is about £2,000; the prepartion of the evidence is part of the ordinary work of the Department, and its cost cannot be separately identified. Copies of the memoranda are placed in the Library of the House as they are published. The statistics contained in the memoranda are largely derived from published sources which are available in the Library of the House, but where appropriate the appendices to the memoranda contain fuller statistical information.
I understand from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that he has submitted two volumes of evidence to the Commission, of which the printing cost was £1,070, and that copies have been placed in the Library of the House. I also understand that the statistical information contained in the Commissioner's evidence was largely derived from published sources.
