HC Deb 23 March 1979 vol 964 cc228-9W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will list in the Official Report the various tax-free expenses paid to members of boards, committees, and tribunals for which his Department is responsible and, assuming that the recipient is married with two dependent children and an income of £5,000, £10,000, £15,000 and £20,000 per annum, respectively, what these expenses would be worth if subject to income tax.

Mr. Mason

Members of boards, committees and tribunals are reimbursed their travelling and subsistence expenses at various rates applicable to civil servants and local government officials. Details of payments by[...] Department and of their value if they were subject to income tax could not be obtained except at disproportionate cost.
