HC Deb 23 March 1979 vol 964 cc119-20W
Mr. Hardy

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what reduction has been achieved since 1974 in the numbers of children in both primary and secondary schools placed in classes of over 30.

Miss Margaret Jackson

The number of children in secondary classes, as taught, with more than 30 pupils and only one teacher, has fallen by 875,325 between January 1974 and January 1978.

This information is not available for primary classes, as taught, but the corresponding fall in primary classes as registered is 193,439 children.
