HC Deb 23 March 1979 vol 964 c210W
Mr. Roy Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if he will take steps to ensure that all garages prominently display the price of petrol on sale in the forecourt of their premises.

Mr. Maclennan

Petrol prices must already be displayed by all garages on or near the pumps in such a way that they can be read easily by the motorist from the place where he stops his car to fill up. Garages which choose to display price information in addition to the above compulsory display must comply with detailed regulations on the form and use of such displays. I do not believe additional regulation of the display of petrol prices is required.
