HC Deb 23 March 1979 vol 964 cc229-30W
Mr. Wm. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is now the estimated cost of the Madams Bank bridge; how this compares with the original estimates in actual and real terms.

Mr. Carter

, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 13 March 1979; Vol. 964, c. 142], gave the following information:

The latest estimate at March 1978 prices for the completion of the bridge and approach roads is £13.0 million.

Original estimates in 1968, 1970 and 1972 were £2.25 million, £3.9 million and £5.75 million respectively, which would be equivalent to more than £9 million, £14.6 million and £16.9 million respectively, when allowance is made for inflation.
