HC Deb 23 March 1979 vol 964 cc181-2W
Mr. Wrigglesworth

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he is satisfied that the Hong Kong trade deficit for the forthcoming year is estimated to be Hong Kong $11 billion; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Luard

The widening visible trade deficit over the past year or so is a matter of concern. In order to reverse this trend, measures have been proposed in the 1979–80 Budget to slow down the growth rate of domestic demand.
