asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many senior local authority officers will be called upon to act in the capacity of presiding officers during the various elections that will be held in the United Kingdom during 1979; how much will

The appointment of presiding officers is the responsibility of returning officers. The fees payable to presiding officers at local elections are determined by the local authority concerned. The regulations fixing the fees payable at the forthcoming parliamentary and European Assembly elections have not yet been made.
