§ Mr. Brocklebank-Fowlerasked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what proposals he has to enable local authorities in expanding towns to dispose of council house surpluses;
(2) if he will encourage the speedy disposal of surplus council houses to private purchasers in expanding towns where the housing surplus has been created to accommodate an anticipated increase in population from London which has not and will not now materialise.
§ Mr. ArmstrongWhere there is a true surplus of houses in an expanding town, following the cessation of a town development scheme, my right hon. Friend will consider, carefully and in the light of all the circumstances, requests for any necessary special consent for the disposal of empty houses erected in connection with that scheme.
