asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what action she is taking in the light of the report from the working party of the computer board of her Department recommending the setting up of a large number of university microcomputer centres and networks; and if she will seek to ensure that British hardware is used wherever possible.

Copies of the report have been sent to universities by the computer board and comments are now being received. In due course the board will advise me and I shall consider the report in the light of its advice.

The computer board makes every endeavour to purchase equipment from United Kingdom companies whenever possible.
