HC Deb 23 March 1979 vol 964 c165W
Mr. Noble

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what are his conclusions following the discussions between representatives of his Department and the chairman of the Lancashire county council social services, concerning payment to persons attending centres for the physically handicapped.

Mr. Alfred Morris

Following the discussions referred to and after consulting my hon. Friend, the Member for Rossendale (Mr. Noble), my Department conveyed a number of suggestions to the director of social services. I understand that they have now been considered by the social services committee and that a special sub-committee has been set up to review the whole question of remuneration and contract work for physically and mentally handicapped people. The next meeting of the sub-committee is expected shortly and will have before it a detailed report which is currently being prepared by officials. The council has undertaken to respond to the suggestions made to it as soon as possible and I shall write to my hon. Friend when it has done so.
