HC Deb 23 March 1979 vol 964 c245W
Mr. Lee

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what was the value of sales revenue accruing to the Banaban community from the time of the constitution of the British Phosphate Commission by statute until the present time; and what proportion this represents of the total value at world market prices of the phosphate sold throughout that period.

Mr. Luard

Royalties and phosphate proceeds paid to the Banabans from 1920 to date amount to approximately A$23 million. No reliable phosphate"market price"before 1967 has been established to the Government's satisfaction.
