Notes:

  1. (1) All figures are gross and include payments to nationalised industries. The major items of expenditure included are regional development grants, selective financial assistance under section 7 of the Industry Act 1972, Local Employment Act assistance, regional employment premium (which was discontinued in January 1977) and investment grant differential (estimated).
  2. (2) The population is that of the assisted areas in the region or territory in question.
  3. (3) Some of the regions listed above have only relatively small areas with assisted areas status and the amount of regional preferential assistance received by firms in those regions is correspondingly low.
