HC Deb 23 March 1979 vol 964 c250W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs when he expects to introduce legislation to fix the salaries and expenses of the British Members to the European Parliament on the same basis as that paid to British Members of Parliament.

Mr. John

I have been asked to reply.

Legislation to make provision for the payment of salaries to United Kingdom representatives to the Assembly of the European Communities will be introduced as soon as practicable. It has been agreed that allowances for expenditure incurred by representatives in the execution of their duties will be determined and paid by the Assembly itself.
