§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Industry whether he will initiate discussion with the Trades Union Congress, the Confederation of British Industry and the Post Office to introduce a national voluntary system of payments of wages and salaries by National Giro.
§ Mr. Les HuckfieldThe Government favour movement towards payment of wages and salaries by non-cash methods and welcome the initiatives which the National Girobank has already taken to widen the acceptance of this principle. I believe that further progress would best be made by joint action on the part of the banking sector as a whole, in which the National Girobank would be well placed to play an important role.
