HL Deb 22 March 1979 vol 399 c1399WA
Lord AVEBURY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many applications for settlement in the United Kingdom by virtue of marriage to women settled here have been made by husbands since 22nd March 1977, to the latest convenient date, and how many interviews of such persons have been conducted to the same date, in the Indian sub-continent and the rest of the world respectively.

Lord BOSTON of FAVERSHAM

The latest available information is that between 22nd March 1977 and 30th September 1978 about 5,700 applications for settlement in the United Kingdom by virtue of marriage to women settled or about to become settled in the United Kingdom were made by husbands abroad, of which about 1,500 were in the Indian sub-continent. The number of interviews of such persons is not known, but during that period about 1,200 such applications were concluded (that is, granted or refused) in the Indian subcontinent and about 4,000 in the rest of the world.
